No data, wtf!?! *Updated*

The European Sony Playstation server seems be having some sort of issues at the moment, it doesn’t let users sign in properly. It isn’t responding to iTrophies with any data either. I’m not sure if this temporary maintenance or why they are having an issue. But I’ll keep an eye on it, and as always release a fix IF one is required.

*Update*

Should be working now. No communication from Sony about what happened, whether there was another Anonymous hacker attack or scheduled down time or something else, your guess is as good as mine.

Updated 21st April 2011

The PSN network is down, again. Sony claim maintenance, others claim they are being attacked over the way they’ve handled the jailbreaking of the PS3 and the legal actions. I don’t know the real issue, but once again, iTrophies is not working because of Sony servers! I apologize to those customers who may have only recently just bought iTrophies and may have a bad impression of my application.

iTrophies v.2.5.4 Crashing on sign in

This doesn’t appear to be an issue with PS3 iTrophies per se.

The Official Sony Playstation websites appear to be going online/offline (http://uk.playstation.com, http://us.playstation.com, http://eu.playstation.com etc)

The reason iTrophies is crashing on sign in is because the Playstation server is responding with an error code which iTrophies is not dealing with gracefully. I will add some error handling so the application doesn’t crash in the future. However, the current problem is NOT to do with iTrophies. You can see this on the Help tab of iTrophies:

PS3 iTrophies version 2.5.4 now Live

Version 2.5.4 of PS3 iTrophies is now live on the Apple app store. Nothing new in the update, only a fix for the sign in issue from last week.

Quite a fast turn around by Apple. Submitted the update on Saturday, went live this evening, 3 days from submission to release including a Sunday, quite impressed for once!

Please leave a comment if it works, or if there’s anything that doesn’t work (there shouldn’t be though!).

* Update 16th March 2011 *f
Update went live last night and people have been able to download it as some reviews have appeared and messages on twitter saying they got the update and iTrophies works again. This morning I’ve had a couple of emails where some people have not been able to download the update even though they have the notification. I’m not sure what’s going on, give it a few hours. If the update still cannot be downloaded I’ll contact Apple Support myself directly and find out what’s going on. The status of version 2.5.4 on the developer portal says “Ready for Sale” so everyone should be able to download it.

The update problem should be resolved, go get it peeps!

Sign in Issue *Updated 15th March*

I’ve just submitted an update to Apple to fix the sign in issue which I think has affected all users. Sorry about this, a change on the Sony side was made, again.

*Updated 15th March*

I’ve just checked the status for the update online and it is “In Review”. Hopefully this means you all don’t have to wait too much longer for the fix!

Version 2.5.4 is now live.

Ps3 iTrophies v2.5.3 Released

PS3 iTrophies version 2.5.3 has been released and is available on the App Store.

This release was to address 2 major issues:

  • Fix the Friends List
  • Fix crashing which affected some users

Sorting of the Friends List – I have had to remove the sorting options because the data returned is now different, which has made sorting by time tricky. It is not an over sight, it is intentional. I decided to get a fix out quickly as this Friends List is better than no Friends List at all.

I will add the sorting Friends List by last online again, just need some time and to figure out how to do it.

Multitasking – v.2.5.2 didn’t support multitasking properly, if you sent iTrophies to the background and then came back to it after a few hours iTrophies would fail to update the friends list/trophies list. This is due to the authentication session timing out. I know how to fix this and I will support multitasking properly in the next update.

Thank you to everyone who has bought iTrophies and has stuck with me and my app throughout.

*Update* Submitted fix status has moved to “In Review”.

*Update* Fix status is now “Ready for Sale”, should be on the App Store within the next few hours.

Friends List doesn’t update after loading it the first time.

An explanation to why the friends list doesn’t appear to update after the first time you’ve loaded it.

Skip to bottom for the short answer if you’re not really interested in the “why” and just want to know how to resolve this.

The long answer:
In the new iPhone OS (iOS4) Apple introduced multitasking for the 3GS and the iPhone4. This issue does not affect iPhone 3G or iPod Touch 1st gen users since their is no multitasking on those devices.

PS3 iTrophies has not been fully updated to support the multitasking features of iOS4. If you launch iTrophies, and you log in and the friends list loads then you press the Home button to quit iTrophies you’re not actually exiting the app. You are putting the app in the multitasking suspend mode. If you launch iTrophies again you’ll notice that you didn’t have to sign in again, that’s because iTrophies has woken from the suspended state. The authenticated session may have expired by the time you relaunch iTrophies so you need to quit the app properly and sign in again, this is the way iTrophies worked before the iOS4 update from Apple.

The short answer:
You need to quit the iTrophies correctly so that the friends list loads correctly the next time you launch iTrophies.

Quitting the App Correctly:
To do this follow these instructions:
Press the Home button twice.
You should see a taskbar appear at the bottom of your screen.
Find the iTrophies icon. Press and hold it.
A red circle should appear. Press the red circle.
iTrophies has not exited correctly.
The next time you launch iTrophies the friends list will load correctly.

Future:
I will update for proper multi-task support and retina display in the coming week or so.

v2.5.2 Released (Fix for Friends List) *Updated*

PS3 iTrophies v2.5.2 has finally been released on the App Store.

Please download it and let me know whether it has or if it has not worked for you.

Please state your iPhone/iPod Model and iOS version so I can see if there is a trend in any further problems.

Update: Initially it seemed that this update didn’t fix the issue but it seems to be working now, and the old version (v2.5.1) seems to also work too! I’ve deleted the comment’s that said it didn’t work to keep this post less confusing but if you still find it doesn’t work please do mail me.

Thanks for all your patience iTrophies users!

Friends List Issue *Updated again, it’s in Review (finally)*

You may find that your friends list will fail to load. Early indications show a change in some of the parameters required to load the list.

I’ll have a fix submitted to Apple by tonight!

Update:
I’ve just fixed the issue, it was just a one liner fix fortunately!  However, the fix still needs to go through Apple so hopefully it won’t take too long to be approved after I submit it tonight.

Second Update:
Still in app update limbo!

Third Update: Progress!!

Finally it’s “In Review”!!

iPad…

Today the iPad goes on sale in the UK, I was hoping Amazon would be stocking it either today or in the next few days but apparantlythe DSG group (that’s a Dixon and PC World stores) have a deal to sell the iPad exclusively for the next 60 days, thats 2 months at least I’ll have to wait before I can buy one! :(

In case you’re wondering why I want to get one from Amazon, it’s because I’ve get a decent number of vouchers to spend at Amazon.
